tinderbox 'hosts'

Before I head off into the happy land of clustering, can someone  
explain to a person who's had way too little sleep over the past week  
what the current concept of a tinderbox 'host' actually means or does?

Right off the bat, I'd like to add in an 'architecture' configuration  
item on a per-host basis, and also add this to jails (and, by,  
inheritance, builds), so that I could queue up a port build for a  
particular architecture through a central UI, and it would whistle  
off and find an appropriate host on which to build.

But before I do that, I'd be interested in exactly what the current  
'host' means...
