Issues with the port dependency table

Thanks for that.  Hands up anyone who hasn't "assumed like an idiot" ;)

Which brings me on to another issue, namely, what is this table  
actually *for* (I've read the discussion on the list, but am still  
confused).

Population of this table only appears to occur at addPort time.   
Unfortunately, port dependencies can and do change (additions,  
deletions, and so on).

As it stands, it seems that if any real use is to be made of the  
table, at the very least, there needs to be some kind of "rescan"  
command to keep things up to date.

Stable tables, purporting to be authoritative in any way, are very  
dangerous things indeed.
