I fail to see why we need to add support beyond the existing  
*_DEPENDS variables, do we then get PYTHON_BUILD_DEPENDS,  
RUBY_BUILD_DEPENDS, GUILE_BUILD_DEPENDS for shortcuts there?  That  
way lies madness.

I understand the philosophy behind PERL_{BUILD,RUN}_DEPENDS, but it  
should absolutely fit seamlessly into the existing framework that so  
many other ports are quite happy with:

	1.  FETCH_DEPENDS
	2.  EXTRACT_DEPENDS
	3.  PATCH_DEPENDS
	4.  BUILD_DEPENDS + LIB_DEPENDS
	5.  RUN_DEPENDS + LIB_DEPENDS

What is the absolutely compelling reason for special-casing PERL_ 
{BUILD,RUN}_DEPENDS in the context of dependency chaining?
